OtoscopyDr. Light performs otoscopy as part of every evaluation done at Brainchild Institute. It is a very quick examination that involves looking into the ear with an instrument called an otoscope. This is performed in order to examine the ear canal also known as the external auditory canal. It is a tunnel that leads from the outer ear to the eardrum (tympanic membrane). Dr. Light is looking for possible scratches, redness, swelling, ear wax, or any foreign objects that could potentially be interrupting soundwaves from travelling appropriately through the ear canal.

Amanda Jaijairam (Mandy) and Sara Speed are state registered audiology assistants. They conduct hearing exams under Dr. Leah Light’s supervision as needed. Mandy is performing otoscopy on our little friend, Arielle, who also wanted a turn!
