CAPPDOTS™ is available only to audiologists and speech-language pathologists to ensure appropriate application and implementation of the training program. This is an online intervention used to improve auditory processing disorders amongst other diagnoses.CAPDOTS™ improves auditory figure-ground discrimination, binaural integration and monaural low redundancy listening skills. It can also improve verbalization, socialization, academic performance, conversational skills, language pragmatics and self-confidence. There are two products offered by CAPDOTS™ known as CAPDOTS™-Integrated andCAPDOTS™-Selected.
CAPDOTS™-Integrated is a Dichotic Integration Listening Training Program that utilizes time lead-lag, interaural differences. This auditory training program module used to treat Central Auditory Processing Disorder (CAPD), specifically binaural integration deficits (also referred to as auditory divided attention).Individuals with binaural integration deficits often present with comparatively poorer receptive rather than expressive language skills, weak auditory memory, word retrieval and sequencing difficulties. They also display poor language pragmatics, decreased verbal confidence, limited social engagements and academic performance levels that do not match intellectual potential. These individuals are often identified as inattentive listeners, with a tendency to tune out during lengthy verbal interchanges. They may also get overwhelmed in busy, multi-input environments, preferring solitary activities and quiet settings. There are three different versions available depending on the age of the student.
CAPDOTS™-Selected is a Dichotic Selection/Separation Listening Training program that is useful for those with binaural separation deficits and who fail or present with atypical interaural symmetries on Competing Sentences type tests.Individuals with binaural separation deficits have difficulty in processing simultaneous, multiple inputs and selecting or focusing on important or target inputs. They may present as being distracted during listening tasks or complain about others talking “all at the same time”. They may complain often of distractions from repetitive sounds such as tapping or clicking, and by soft sounds such as whispering, eating sounds, crinkling paper, whispering or talking and singing from a distance. They prefer to work and study either with music or in absolute silence.There are three different versions available depending on the age of the student.
CAPDOTS can have an impact in multiple areas including: pragmatics, alertness, interpretation of abstract and non-explicit information, tolerance of noisy situations and improved focus in class, and following group and multi-step directions . Dr. Leah Light does a thorough Auditory Processing Evaluation as part of her Neurodevelopmental Auditory Assessment. CAPDOTS™ is recommended dependent upon Dr. Light’s findings. She will always recommend the interventions she believes is best suited for each child, teenager, or adult tested.
